Por favor, describa Lool Beh Botanics – ¿qué tipo de productos hace? (y que significa el nombre?)
LOOL BEH es un vocablo maya que significa “La Flor del Camino”. Es la mujer que conoce las bondades medicinales de las plantas y sabe aplicarlas para curar a quienes cruzan por su sendero.
Lool Beh produce cosméticos y productos para la higiene naturales de manera artesanal.
¿Cómo se inició en su negocio y cuánto tiempo ha estado haciéndolo?
Comencé a elaborar mis productos de manera casual en el año 2014 atendiendo las necesidades de mi comunidad de tener productos higiénicos y cosméticos naturales a precios accesibles utilizando productos de mi localidad. Sin embargo la cosmética es una tradición familiar y no fue hasta me integre a Eco Tianguis Sanka mercado ecológico en Zihuatanejo que note que mis conocimientos sobre cosmética, salud integral, hierbas, fito terapia, aroma terapia, herbolaria, gastronomía y arte podían crear productos que lo mismo cuidara, protegiera, consintiera y de ser necesario sanara la piel y el cabello sin dañar el medio ambiente y apoyando el consumo local.
¿Cuáles son las cosas más importantes para usted cuando hace y diseña sus nuevos productos?
Lo más importante para mí es la calidad de la materia prima con la que elaboro mis productos así como el proceso de elaboración que respeta las necesidades de cada ingrediente para poder obtener lo mejor de ellos y así crear productos que se ajustan a las necesidades de todos.
¿Cómo se empaquetan sus productos y qué cosas se tienen en cuenta a la hora de decidir el embalaje?
Los productos que ofrezco son variados desde jabones, shampoo líquido, shampoo sólido, cremas faciales, corporales, bálsamos, lociones corporales, cremas de afeitar, pasta de dientes, repelentes entre otros y su presentación es lo más ecológica a la que puedo tener acceso por su disponibilidad o por su costo. Como en la materia prima los envases y tarros son ecológicos utilizando frascos reutilizables de cristal y en el caso de los jabones se ofrecen sin envoltura y todo se entrega en bolsas de papel.
¿Cómo se seleccionan los ingredientes que se utilizan?
Continuamente reflexiono en el impacto que tienen mis productos en el ambiente y busco maneras de hacerlo más simple, más ecológico y agradable siempre manteniendo en mente que debe ser accesible para todos,
¿Como ha aprendido más sobre los peligros y problemas con plásticos, qué cambios ha hecho a su vida comercial y personal?
En los últimos años he tomado conciencia del impacto negativo que tienen los productos comerciales en el ambiente y en mi salud, decidiendo tomar acción sobre este tema y ayudar a las demás personas a tener productos que cuiden su piel y cabello de manera natural. Así mismo otros aspectos de mi vida y ética de consumo han cambiado adoptando en mi vida diaria productos de características similares a los productos que elaboro.
¿Cuáles son sus futuros proyectos y objetivos para su negocio?
Al elaborar productos naturales quiero traer a las personas productos de calidad 100% natrales de origen ecológico, y a la vez apoyar la producción local. Espero que todos entendamos la necesidad de modificar nuestros hábitos de consumo en pro de nuestra salud y del medio ambiente.

Interview with Zihua’s own Gabriela Trejo of Lool Beh Botanics
Please describe Lool Beh Botanics– what kind of products do you make?
LOOL BEH is a Mayan word that means “the flower of the way” and refers to the woman who knows the medicinal goodness of the plants and knows how to apply them to heal those who cross their path.
Lool Beh produces handcrafted cosmetics and natural hygiene products.
How did you get started in your business and how long have you been doing it?
I began to make my products casually in 2014 – meeting the needs of my community to have hygienic products and natural cosmetics, using local ingredients at affordable prices. However, cosmetics is a family tradition and it was not until I joined Eco Tianguis Sanka (Eco-Market) in Zihuatanejo, that I noticed that my knowledge of cosmetics, integral health, herbs, herbal therapy, aroma therapy, herbs, food and art could be used to create more products that could support local consumption while also caring for, protecting, and healing the skin and hair without damaging the environment.
What are the most important things to you when you make and design your new products?
The most important thing for me is the quality of the raw material with which I use to develop my products as well as the process that makes use of each ingredient in order to obtain the best of them and thus create products that fit the needs of all.
How are your products packaged and what things do you take into account when deciding on the packaging?
The products I offer vary from soaps, liquid shampoo, solid shampoo, facial, body creams, balms, body lotions, shaving creams, toothpaste, insect repellents and more. They are packaged in the most ecological ways that I have access to and are cost effective. As in the raw material containers and jars are ecological – using reusable glass jars and in the case of soaps, are offered without wrapping and everything is delivered in paper bags.
How do you select which ingredients you use?
I continually reflect on the impact that my products have on the environment and look for ways to make it simpler, more environmentally friendly and always keeping in mind that it should be accessible to all.
As you have learned more about the dangers and problems with plastics, what changes have you made to your business and personal life?
In recent years I have become aware of the negative impact that commercial products have on the environment and on my health, deciding to take action on this issue and help other people to have products that care for their skin and hair naturally. Also other aspects of my life and consumer ethics have changed by adopting in my daily life products of similar characteristics to the products that I develop.
What are your future plans and goals for your business?
When developing natural products, I want to bring to the people quality products of 100% natural, organic origin, while supporting local production. I hope that we will all understand the need to modify our consumption habits for our health and the environment.
