¿Qué es cero desperdicio?
Hoy día es una nueva tendencia ecologista que de pronto ha sido adoptada por moda etre varios grupos de personas alrededor del planeta, sobre el cómo generar menos basura día a día.
Sin embargo, creo que es una desición y un compromiso que cada individuo debe tener hoy día, para contaminar menos y dejar de depredar sin aportar nada a los recursos naturales, recursos que generosamente están a nuestro alcance y que aún podemos procurar, tratando de mantener el equilibrio de la cadena alimenticia y los ciclos de vida de todo el ecosistema.
¿Cómo y por qué decidiste vivir una vida de cero desperdicios?
Desde muy joven he tenido el conocimiento sobre la problemática del planeta con respecto a la cantidad enorme de basura y sobre todo del plástico que puede desechar una sola persona cotidianamente; esto generado por el consumo innecesario, por inconciencia o hasta por flojera y comodidad es instantaneas.
Siempre me decía que no podía salvar el mundo yo sola, pero siempre he hecho algo para tratar de crear conciencia con los míos, sino es por respeto y amor a la vida, lo hacía por la vía del miedo; les digo que sino toman medida inmediata con sus estilos de vida derrochadores muy pronto se quedarían sin agua (como fuente de la misma vida), sin esos paisajes hermosos cuando intentaran viajar y esos colores inigualables que puede dar el sol con sus destellos reflejantes y calidos.
De alguna manera funciona y llevo años despojandome de cosas que no utilizo y que no necesito para vivir y la verdad es que ahora soy muy feliz por ello.
Por favor, describa el trabajo que está haciendo/Businesses con el que trabaja – para lograr cero residuos
La intensión de Eco Axolotl es dar a conocer productos (en su mayoría hechos en México) que evitarán el uso excesivo de articulos tanto de higiene personal como algunos que se utilizan en la cocina; mismos que en el mercado comercial son de un sólo uso y van a la montaña actual de basura, que ya es tema de preocupación mundial.
Tratamos de generar conocimiento y conciencia sobre un producto que tiene mínimo un año de uso el cual a lo largo de ese año disminuye el deshecho de basura de manera considerable en su casa.
Productos que son compostables, reutilizables y biodegradables; los ahora conocidos como Eco Amigables
Describir algunos de los productos y ¿cómo ayudan a contribuir a un estilo de vida cero residuos?
Toallas femeninas de tela, reutilizables, muy comodas y suaves, elaboradas artesanalmente con telas de algodón, mismo que permite que la piel respire manteniendola libre de irritación, rozaduras y alergias. Ya que el algodón no contiene sustancias químicas como polvos gelificantes, látex y perfumes, compuestos sintéticos que las toallas desechables sí tienen y que tu piel y mucosa vaginal absorben; polimeros acrílicos que en conjunto con el flujo menstrual, convierten tu vagina el lugar perfecto para la incubación de bacterías causantes de las famosas infecciones.
Una toalla femenina de tela ayuda a una sola mujer a disminuir el uso de aproximadamente 216 toallas desechables que llegan al relleno sanitario en un año. (Mas productos abajo!)
¿Qué ha sido lo más difícil para usted al tratar de vivir cero desechos?
Que en algunos lugares donde luego resido no hay venta de la canasta básica a granel y que en las tiendas de autoservicio sobre todo, los articulos vienen envueltos de plástico sobre plástico. ¿Cuáles son los desafíos más grandes con sus negocios?
Que a la mayoría de la gente los precios les parecen elevados (siendo que manejamos precio justo), sin pensar que esa pequeña inversión evitará un futuro con desenlace desastrozo en cuanto a la dificultad de vida que tendrán las nuevas generaciones tratando de reparar lo que las anteriores hemos pasado de largo y sin importancia contaminando y depredando de maneras desmesuradas.
¿Cómo ve sus negocios creciendo y cambiando en el futuro?
No sé si Eco Axolotl permanezca como hasta hoy día, lo que sí es que sé que ya aportó algo a la nueva cultura zero waste y que mi romanticismo utópico sobre la conciencia colectiva de respetar a nuestro planeta y contaminarlo menos ya fue realizado, con cada cepillo dental compostable que salió de la tienda, con cada popote de bambú que evitó el uso de cientos de popotes plásticos.
No lo sé pero el ajolote rosado está feliz y satisfecho con su aporte y si seguimos en el menrcado será unplacer siempre atender a las peronas interesadas en adquirir algo de la tiendita. ¿Cuáles son sus 5 mejores consejos para las personas que están tratando para vivir cero desechos?
1.- Despojarse de lo que no utilizan en la vida cotidiana, lo que sirva aun regalarlo o intercambiarlo por algo que si utilice co alguien más interesado en el Cero Residuo
2.- Comprar articulos de consumo con empaques reutilizables o eco amigables
3.- Tener su propio huerto en casa y con los vegetales y legumbres que más consuma; para esto es muy recomendable aprender a hacer su caja de composta para los deshechos orgánicos y de ahí mismo obtener los nutrientes para su huerto
4.- Siempre llevar bolsa para sus compras, termo para bebidas, popote y cubiertos reutilizables y así evitar el uso de los desechables.

What is Zero Waste?
Today’s new environmental trend that has been adopted by many groups of people around the planet, is about how to generate less waste every day.
However, I believe it is a decision and a commitment that each individual must have today, to pollute less and stop taking without contributing anything to natural resources, resources that are generously available and that we can still procure, trying to maintain the balance of the food chain and the life cycles of the entire ecosystem.
How and why did you decide to live a life of zero waste?
From a very young age I have had knowledge about the problems of the planet with regard to the enormous amount of garbage and especially the plastic that a single person can throw away every day; this is generated by the unnecessary consumption, by a lack of consciousness or even by laziness and desire for comfort and instant gratification.
They always told me that I could not save the world by myself, but I have always done something to try to create consciousness for myself and other, but it is out of respect and love for life. I did it through fear; I tell them that if they do not take immediate action with their wasteful lifestyles, they would soon run out of water (as a source of life itself), and live without those beautiful landscapes when they try to travel and those unparalleled colors that the sun can give with its reflective and warm flashes.
Somehow it works and I’ve been stripping myself for years of things that I do not use and that I do not need to live and the truth is that now I’m very happy about it.
Please describe the work you are doing /businesses you work with – to achieve zero waste
The intention of Eco Axolotl is to make known products (mostly made in Mexico) that will help in living a life of less waste – We sell articles of personal hygiene as well as some that are used in the kitchen. Many of the same products as are found in the commercial market but that are for one use only and go to the current mountain of garbage, which is already an issue of global concern.
We try to generate knowledge and awareness about a product that has a minimum of one year of use which throughout that year decreases the waste of garbage considerably in your home.
Products that are compostable, reusable and biodegradable; those now known as “Eco-Friendly”.
Describe some of the products and how they help contribute to a zero waste lifestyle?
One example is Women’s sanitary pads – they are reusable, very comfortable and soft, handcrafted with cotton fabrics, which allows the skin to breathe, keeping it free from irritation, chafing and allergies. Since the cotton does not contain chemical substances such as gelling powders, latex and perfumes, synthetic compounds that the disposable towels do have they are much healthier to use. Your skin absorb all of the chemical substances; acrylic polymers that together with the menstrual flow, making the perfect environment for the incubation of the bacteria that cause infections.
Also these reusable pads helps a single woman decrease the use of approximately 216 disposable towels per year that would end up at the landfill.
What has been the hardest thing for you when trying to live zero waste?
That in some places where I reside there is no sale of the basic food items in bulk and that in the self-service stores especially, the articles are wrapped in plastic on plastic.
What are you biggest challenges with your businesses?
That to most people the prices seem high (we aim to set fair prices), without thinking that this small investment will prevent a future with disastrous outcome in terms of the difficulty of life that new generations will have trying to repair what we have long and uncaringly polluted by our excessive ways.
How do you see your businesses growing and changing in the future?
I do not know if Eco Axolotl will remain as it is today, but I know that it has already contributed something to the new zero waste culture and that my utopian romanticism about the collective conscience of respecting our planet and not contaminating it has already been realized, with each Compostable dental brush that came out of the store, with each bamboo straw that prevented the use of hundreds of plastic straws.
I do not know but the red axolotl is happy and satisfied with his contribution and if we continue in the mercado it will always be a pleasure to serve the people interested in acquiring something from the store.
What are your top 5 tips for people who are trying to live zero waste?
1.- Get rid of what you do not use in everyday life, what you can give away or exchange it for something that you use with someone also interested in the Zero Waste
2.- Buy consumer items with reusable or eco-friendly packaging – or no packaging.
3.- Have your own garden at home and with the vegetables and legumes that you consume the most; For this it is highly recommended to learn how to make your compost box for organic waste and from there obtain the nutrients for your garden.
4.- Always carry a bag for your purchases, a thermos for drinks, straw and reusable cutlery and thus avoid the use of disposables.
5.- Learn to recycle waste

Are you someone who cares about the environment? If you answered yes, you probably worry about endangered species, you probably believe that climate change is real (and it is), and certainly you are aware that plastic pollution is getting out of hand. In my short 35 years on earth, I have been fortunate to live in 4 countries, travel to 17 and visit 1000s of cities. What I have come to learn is that one can find beauty anywhere on earth, and now you can also find plastic.

Empecé a notar cada vez más formas en las que también estaba usando plástico en mi vida y he estado trabajando en ello para eliminar y reducir mi propio consumo tanto como sea posible. No es fácil, algunas veces es frustrante y algunas veces renuncio a cosas que realmente quiero tener, porque no siento que mi deseo valga la pena del derroche de plástico que generará.
